From a small entreprise to the reputed Atharva Group of Industries

Even as you are making progress because of the hard work done by the parents and the sanskar (subconscious impression) the hard work has made on you, there needs to be an idol before you after your parents. I got invaluable guidance from reverend Diliprao Walse Patil Saheb, who is calm, patient, studious and is a great person. My life changed radically after that.

The life journey of people who build their world from scratch is surely inspiring for others. For some, it is a ray of hope. Here we will look at the successful life journey of one such versatile personality, Mansingh Pachundkar Patil, a young entrepreneur who is just 40.

A few years back, Shirur taluka in Pune district was known as the most drought-prone taluka in Maharashtra. Chandrabhaga and Nanasaheb Dinkar Pachundkar Patil, an ordinary farmer couple, were carrying on with dryland farming and taking care of their four children. In this challenging situation, a young man from Nanasaheb’s family was dreaming of reaching the sky since childhood. Armed with a strong conviction and an indomitable will, he was determined to do something different. That young man is today’s successful young entrepreneur Mansingh Pachundkar Patil. The greatest provision he had received was the hard work done by his parents, their good deeds, and the sanskar (subconscious impression) they gave him. He also received the blessings of his uncles and aunts Anandrao, Sohanrao and Balasaheb, as well as his elder brothers Dr Bhausaheb, Chandrasekhar, Dattatraya and Advocate Prataprao who stood firmly behind every decision of his. Younger brothers Raosaheb, Dnyaneshwar, Mandar and Advocate Ravindra too gave him valuable support. Behind every successful man is a woman. His wife Jyoti has also worked shoulder to shoulder with him and given him valuable support during his professional journey. From a small labour contractor to the owner of four companies with a turnover of over Rs 500 crore, his journey is astounding and inspiring to the youth. This article will create a fascination about business among the Marathi youth of today and is a collector’s item. In 1994-95, MIDC was established at Ranjangaon. The thought of getting some work (contract work) there instead of looking for a job like others gripped Mansingh’s mind. He decided to make the most of the opportunity that came in the form of MIDC while carrying out the work on his family farm, selling vegetables grown on the farm and delivering milk to villagers. Overcoming conflicts and endless difficulties, he kept going. Due to his conviction, willpower, honesty and willingness to work hard, perhaps Mahaganapati (one of the eight famous Ganapati temples in Maharashtra situated at Ranjangao) also gave showered blessings on him.

Service Industry: The first step

It became his routine to successfully complete whichever task came his way, without any qualms. He maintained that whatever he was doing had to be better than what he had done the previous day. His perseverance and hard work helped him to create his identity. His business journey began in 2001 when he supplied a housekeeping labourer on a contract basis to an international company. With the trust earned by him within a short span, he got another job at the same company – that of disposing of the canteen waste. Back then, he would get Rs 40 to pick up the canteen waste. To save that money, he used to take a worker along and do the waste disposal task of housekeeping all by himself. He continued to progress through his dynamic thinking. Soon he got a contract to supply milk, biscuits and soft drinks to the company’s canteen and after that, he never looked back. These small jobs made the foundation of his big success strong. He achieved success in every field, only through the quality of his work. Today, his Atharva Group of Companies employs over 2,000 workers. To this day, giving jobs to thousands of people directly and indirectly through various businesses run by him is in a way a kind of social work.

Success picked up speed with transport business

He provided contract workers to companies but buses were needed to transport the workers. Recognising his honesty and perseverance, a company encouraged him to buy a bus and provided financial assistance. The trust placed in a small contractor by a company was of course valuable. With extraordinary skill, perseverance and faith in God, he took a loan to expand his business. This time too, destiny bestowed success on him. As a result of good service provided in a short span of time, perfect time management, humility and honesty in business, today around 400 buses owned by him are plying on the Pune-Ahmednagar to Ranjangaon road. At the tender age of 25, he founded Rajmudra Tours and Travels Pvt. Ltd. Later, he handed over the management of the company to his brother Dnyaneshwar. Now, Dnyaneshwar is successfully carrying out the transport business. Rajmudra Tours and Travels is at the forefront of providing labour transport to companies in the Pune district. Recognising the need for providing goods transport along with labour transport in companies, he founded Rajmudra Transport Pvt. Ltd and began to provide goods transport services to various companies. Due to the good service provided by him, his company started getting one work contract after another. Today, the company has more than 200 cargo vehicles in its fleet. During the expansion of the transport company, he entrusted his brother-in-law Sachin Dunde with the responsibility of the company. Today, Rajmudra Transport Pvt Ltd is successfully engaged in goods transport across the country.

Entry into the warehousing business

He had to suffer losses when the goods failed to reach companies on time. Also, companies used to face many difficulties due to lack of space to store the finished goods. Recognising this, he set up 6 lakh sq ft of industrial warehouses and made his debut in the warehousing business through Atharva Logistics. He took his relatives Shahaji Shelke, Manikrao Lande, Bhaskarrao Lande and Suryakant Lande along and set up a network of warehousing businesses. As part of it, he created the country's first ideal car park for an international car manufacturing company over an area of 40 acres.

Lessons in management

In those days, a large network of industries run by international companies was getting formed in the Pune district. Small and large-scale industries were being rapidly set up to supply the spare parts required for those industries while some parts were being imported. Realising the need, he started taking management lessons from dignitaries and senior officials in various fields. He extensively studied essential aspects like decision-making power, personality development and inculcated them in his personality. He empowered himself for professional competition by making the necessary changes in his personality. The eagle had strengthened its wings to fly really high.

Immense success in the manufacturing field too

With increasing experience, he wanted to venture out into different fields. One of the most challenging fields is manufacturing. Despite knowing the risks involved in this field, in 2008, he launched the first company to manufacture plastic spare parts. Atharva Polymers Pvt. Ltd. started manufacturing plastic spare parts needed by national and international automobile companies to produce two-wheelers and four-wheelers. For home appliances, the company makes the plastic spare parts needed for national and international-make television sets, fridges, washing machines, water heaters, ACs and coolers. The spare parts for all kinds of furniture needed by national and international companies in their corporate offices are also manufactured here. The company exports plastic spare parts required for making two-wheelers and four-wheelers, home appliances and furniture to Europe, America and other countries. These companies have got international rankings.

As the business was growing day by day, Atharva Polymers was not able to meet the productivity levels. So, in 2016, he started another polymer company called ‘Atharva Poly Plast' at Shirwal MIDC. This company too started manufacturing plastic spare parts required for two-wheelers and four-wheelers, home appliances and furniture. The company is also exporting plastic parts for making two-wheelers and four-wheelers, home appliances and furniture to European countries, the United States and many other Western countries. The company achieved huge success in a short span of time. It has also received an international ranking.

Launch of a packaging company

Excellent quality packaging is the identity and basic requirement of any type of product. He was convinced that he could make a mark in this area. A new industry was beckoning him. So, he entered the packaging industry with Sanjay Kumar Mache, an industry veteran. In those days, Pune district, which is advanced in the industrial field, had only companies working on semi-automation. He launched Atharva Corrugation Ltd., a 2.2 metre deckle fully automated state-of-the-art corrugation plant with a completely automatic production line that overcame the limitations of the existing companies and produced approximately 2,000 tons per month. He also started supplying corrugation by setting up a fully automatic printing, stitching and glowing machine. Prior to that, corrugation boxes used for packing and exporting spare parts for automotive as well as corrugation boxes used for packing refrigerators, TVs, washing machines, air conditioners, coolers and water heaters in home appliances were made in two pieces. But thanks to the facilities set up by Atharva Corrugation Company, these boxes could be made in a single piece. This is probably the first project in the country to make a corrugation box in a single piece. This company has also been honoured by many international companies.

Entry into the metal industry

He joined the metal industry in the year 2019 by founding a company called Atharva Metal. With the help of Avinash Bhise, he started the metal industry. He started the company in the metal sector with state-of-the-art technology and machines with international standards. The company also manufactures metal spare parts for automobiles, furniture and home appliances like refrigerators, TVs, washing machines, air conditioners, coolers, fans and water heaters. Today, the company has made a name for itself in the metal industry because of three factors - the quality of products, timely delivery and reasonable rates. The parts manufactured by this company are being exported to many Western countries besides Europe and America.

A great personality with a strong social commitment

Today, Mansingh Pachundkar Patil is a revered name in the industrial sector. Not only has he proved his contribution by his efficiency and reliability... but he has also remained at the forefront of social contribution. Various social activities are carried out through the Atharva Group of Industries’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) fund. Apart from helping the needy, he was also helping with educational and religious activities. During the Corona crisis, when people needed help, he helped generously. The lockdown had first hit all the working class. What could they do? The question was whether to return home or stay where they were. One company after another was shutting down. The working class was suffering. Frightened migrant workers had started returning home. But they suffered due to a lack of transportation and food and water. At that time, the activists of ‘Rajmudra Group’, under the guidance of Mansingh Pachundkar Patil and with the help of the administration, planned perfectly and managed to drop, in their own vehicles, thousands of migrant workers working in various companies in Ranjangaon MIDC to their villages, many to their homes. The workers who were worried after losing their livelihood were also provided accommodation, food and water for months. During the stringent lockdown restrictions, he also distributed food, essentials and grocery kits. He gifted a medical kit consisting of high-quality materials like oxymeters, sanitisers, high-quality masks, hand gloves to journalists, health workers and frontline workers. Responding to the call from Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil Saheb and MP from Shirur Dr Amol Kolhe, he generously helped the flood-affected from Chiplun, Mahad. The Gram Panchayats of the area also gave him valuable support in this work. Also, in the year 2019, he extended all possible help for the flood victims in Kolhapur and Sangli districts.

Today, Mansingh Pachundkar Patil has scaled the pinnacle of success. He carried out several social schemes with a sense of social commitment. They say, after one’s parents, one should have an idol. He followed the example of Diliprao Walse, a moderate politician, and brought about a radical change in his life. It is his nature to help all those in need and facing difficulties. While shouldering the responsibility of the entire Atharva Group of Companies, he sincerely cares for the citizens of Ranjangaon and its surroundings.
